Elect Her is a one day training that empowers women to run for student government. Participants will learn and practice hands on campaign skills, hear from local women leaders and attend a networking session with Emory alumni women who were in student government. We encourage transgender and gender non-conforming students to attend the event.
Who: The Elect Her initiative, a collaboration between AAUW, Running Start, and She Should Run, provides a continuum of programming aimed at building the pipeline of young women running for office at all levels.
What: A day long training that is the only one in the in the country that encourages and trains college women to run for student government and future political office. A collaboration between AAUW and Running Start, Elect Her addresses the need to expand the pipeline to women running for office and to diminish the longstanding political leadership gender gap. Students learn how to create campaign messages and communicate them effectively as well as how to reach out and mobilize voters on campus.
Why: The training addresses the disparity between the high percentage of women in colleges and universities and their low percentage in student governments and public office.
Where: Emory University has been selected as a trianing site and will hold an annual trainings. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
