Chanel Craft Tanner serves as the Director of the Center for Women at Emory. As the Director of the Center for Women at Emory, she provides executive leadership for the women’s center and develops and sustains partnerships across the University to establish a shared vision for the CWE and lead in its implementation. She also provides strategic guidance and support across the enterprise to make the university a better place for women, and all students.
Chanel holds a Ph.D. in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies from Emory University where she completed a dissertation entitled “Beyond the Bars: Using US Third World Feminism to Read Constructions of a Carcerality in Hip Hop.” Additionally, she holds an M.A. in Women’s Studies from Georgia State University and a B.A. in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Chanel is also a member of the internationally recognized Crunk Feminist Collective, where she brings expertise in the areas of hip-hop feminism, US third world feminism, black feminism, cultural studies, and critical prison studies to read popular culture.
