Research on so-called "undetected" rapists-men who commit rapes but who are not reported or not prosecuted for their crimes-demonstrates that the old stereotypes about rapists are false. The majority of undetected rapists, who account for the vast majority of rapes, are serial predators who prey on vulnerability. A clearer understanding of the behaviors, motives, and characteristics of undetected rapists is crucial to shaping effective campus policies and prevention programs.
Dr. David Lisak is a researcher and forensic consultant who for 25 years has studied the causes and consequences of interpersonal violence. His work has focused on the long-term effects

Transforming Curriculum for Sustainability
Peggy Barlett, Goodrich C. White Professor of Anthropology at Emory University, co-founded and administers the Piedmont Project, the longest-running curriculum development program for sustainability in the country. In celebration of Women's History Month, she'll speak about the project's history, workshops to help more than 400 leaders from other universities copy our model, and some of the latest strategies for curriculum change documented in her newest book, Transforming Higher Education: Stories and Strategies for Sustainability.

The Unsung Heroine Awards and Student Writing Awards will be presented. An Unsung Heroine is a woman who has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to issues that affect women at Emory or in the larger community, but whose efforts heretofore have not received accolades or formal recognition. The Student Writing Awards honor an undergraduate and graduate student for their scholarship on women's and gender issues. This program is intended to interrupt the all too common violence narrative associated with why someone becomes a bully, the act itself, and how such issues are addressed in an attempt to make room for justice and healing. Dr. Vitorino will also address society's role in creating what we now easily recognize as "the bully."
